My family’s journey with Lake Mills Care Center started when my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and it became too much for my father to manage alone. Around the same time, my dad also needed rehab following surgery, and later, my mother-in-law joined the facility when her health no longer allowed her to care for herself, even in assisted living. Needless to say, Lake Mills quickly became a significant part of our lives.

We chose the facility because it’s local, familiar, and has a great reputation. And I can honestly say—our experience exceeded expectations in every way. From the very beginning, the care was loving, personalized, and consistent. Whenever we had a question or concern, the staff were always willing to talk, and they proactively kept us informed if anything out of the ordinary came up. It made a difficult time much more manageable.

For the rehab side of things, the team was excellent at setting both daily and weekly goals, coordinating closely with the medical staff and physicians. It helped my dad, in particular, feel like he had a clear path forward. And my mom? She absolutely loved the activities and outings—anything that allowed her to be social and connect with others. My dad enjoyed them too, especially the special van rides to see the fall colors.

There were so many staff members who made a lasting impression—Lisa in Activities has always been amazing, and even years later, I still see familiar faces when I visit. It’s that kind of consistency that tells you a facility is doing something right. The dietary team went above and beyond to accommodate my mother-in-law’s specific needs, and I’ll never forget how cared for she felt.

Lake Mills Care Center is incredibly close to my heart. After my mom passed away in 2023, I reached out a few months later and asked how I could give back. Now, I volunteer there two to three times a month, helping with activities and spending time with the residents. I truly love being there. It feels like I’ve come full circle—this place that once cared for my loved ones has become a space where I can continue to show up and give back.

If someone were to ask me whether I recommend Lake Mills Care Center, my answer would be a heartfelt “absolutely.” They’re more than a care team—they’re family.

At 90 years old, my wife and I realized that staying in our large, two-level home by the lake no longer made sense. We needed a place where we could be safe, comfortable, and cared for—and we found exactly that at Lake Mills Independent & Assisted Living.We were fortunate that our granddaughter was managing the community when we first moved in, and today, our great-granddaughter has taken on that role. It’s a true family connection in every way. But even if you remove the family ties, I would still say this is a wonderful place to live.Everything here is convenient. We don’t worry about groceries or daily needs—if we need anything, help is just a call away. The staff, many of whom we’ve happily “adopted” as our own, are kind, attentive, and make us feel truly at home.We enjoy breakfast in the dining room a few mornings each week, but lunch and dinner are delivered to our apartment, allowing us to maintain that cozy, just-the-two-of-us atmosphere. When I started falling at home and couldn’t get back up on my own, I knew something had to change. I was trying to manage without a proper bed and sleeping on a couch in my dining room, but that wasn’t working anymore. Eventually, I landed in the hospital, and from there, I was transferred to Lake Mills Care Center. I didn’t exactly choose it—it chose me. But honestly, it was the biggest favor anyone could’ve done for me.

At first, I needed help getting around, but before I knew it, I was walking myself down the hall to meals. I’ve even transitioned into an area that requires less supervision. The staff here have been supportive, patient, and kind—never reprimanding me, just encouraging me every step of the way. One nurse in particular, Jewel, really stood out to me. She started as a CNA while in school and came back as a nurse. It was a joy to see her again, and her care meant a great deal.

I’ve also had a few short-term roommates during my stay who were lovely and made the experience even more comfortable. I appreciate having my own space, but it’s nice when someone warm and friendly shares the room for a time.

The food is good, the staff are friendly, and everything feels well taken care of. I may not have experience with other places, but I can tell you from what I’ve seen and felt—this is a caring, clean, and uplifting environment. That’s why I decided to stay. I knew I was only going to get older, and I didn’t want to go through another transition. Lake Mills Care Center has made it easy for me to feel safe, respected, and cared for.

I’d recommend this place to anyone who needs rehab or long-term care. They didn’t just meet my expectations—they exceeded them.

I came to Lake Mills Care Center after a major health scare—an artery burst in my brain. It was a miracle that I survived, and I thank the good Lord every day for helping me recover. I’ve regained about 42% of my brain function, and with the incredible care and support I’ve received here, I continue to make progress.

Lake Mills was an easy choice for me—it’s close to home. But I’ll admit, I was surprised by what I found here. I’ve hired many people over the years in business, and I can honestly say everyone here is A-number-one. From the janitor to the top leadership, every person is here for one purpose: to take care of the residents and help us live a good life.

When I first arrived, I’d also just had a large tumor removed from my colon. Between that and my stroke, I had a long road ahead. I came to Lake Mills Care Center after a pretty scary experience — I fell, broke my hip and my arm, and ended up lying on the floor for three days before the fire department found me. After surgery on my hip (and with my arm still healing), I needed a place that could really take care of me and help me get back on my feet. When I saw that Lake Mills had a five-star rating, the choice was easy.

The care I’ve received here has been wonderful. Everyone is so friendly, and the CNAs are truly the best. The therapy team has been incredible too — they’ve helped me make real progress. I just went to the doctor and got a great report, and this morning I was able to use my arm and walk. I even told my therapist I felt like I’d graduated! Each day, I look forward to therapy to see what new milestone I can conquer.

One of my favorite surprises here has been the breakfast service — they serve it all morning, which I think is remarkable. It really shows how much they care about making life comfortable and flexible for everyone.

The food is great, the care is top-notch, and the entire staff makes this place feel like family. I wouldn’t want to name just one person, because honestly, they all deserve recognition. Everyone here has helped me recover, feel safe, and regain my independence. I would recommend Lake Mills Care Center to anyone — the quality of care here is absolutely outstanding.
